Homecoming '06

To whom it may concern:
I'll be in Texas covering Mary Hardin-Baylor vs. UW-Whitewater for D3football.com, but here's what I know about Homecoming, which is this coming Saturday, the 28th.

Nothing special, it's just e-mail reference material. I know that Jamar Jordan is planning on coming, as it's the 10th anniversary for the class of '96 ... believe it or not.

As far as the blogs, ANYONE that wants to contribute, let Damon or myself know ASAP. We want regular contributors to keep things lively.

To add to what Damon has already said, if everyone could bring a dish to the tailgate, it would be appreciated. Just reply-all with what you are bringing so there are no repeats of the same thing. BYOB J I’ll be bringing chips and pretzels.

Hey people. Homecoming is approaching and we have 1 tailgate spot that Francel Smith was so gracious to reserve. I hope to see all of you there. There may be a small surprise during half time that will amuse many. I also wanted you all to look at the following link. It is to an article about Shalise in the Macon newsletter. Have a great day.

Fellas,
Homecoming at RMC is October 28 and I have one space in the tailgate area for us to gather. I don’t have everyone’s email addresses, so forward this message to everyone you have addresses to so we can start to organize the festivities.

Whaddya say, Jackets?

Only one of these guys is your defending BAN Fantasy Football League champion:
It's that time again, for a 7th year of BAN fantasy football. We reviewed the history of the league ever-so-briefly below, now it's time for what you really came to see: This year's sign-up info.

Yahoo! is improved, so it allowed us to set the rules exactly as they were last year with no digging for old sheets of paper by yours truly. We will do an automatic draft as we often do, unless we can whip together sentiment for a online draft. Automatic means as soon as we have a set number of owners and everyone has their pre-rankings how they like 'em, I give Yahoo! the OK, and it runs our draft in the following 24 hours.

The league is open to BAN members first and foremost. We had three non-BAN owners last year, and while they're always good to fill out the league if we have an odd number (my brother will be on call for that again this year, if needed), we want to make sure we can get all the fellas a spot in the league before we start inviting other people.

Spread the word if need be.

The sign-up info is:
League ID: 460477
League password: 4life

Website is fantasysports.yahoo.com. If you've never done this before or need an invite, send me an e-mail at MikeTalib@comcast.net, and I'll get you an invite where you can follow the links to sign up.

I look forward to beating you all again this year. I dug in the crates and found an old Sub Zero Nasty signature design for my post-championship unis:

P.S. For you BAN historians out there, remember that the internet is a wonderful place. Visit http://web.archive.org/, punch in www.nasty4life.net, and see what you find.

Now you know how the guv'mint be checkin' in on us.

Let's get ready for some football

In the next day or so, I will be posting information on how to join the BAN Fantasy Football League, now in its 7th year. We'll be on Yahoo! again, and we'll try to open it up to BAN members first before we fill out with friends and family.

In the meantime, I thought you'd all enjoy a brief history of BAN fantasy league champions.

Year 6, 2005, 12 teams, Yahoo!: Beige Wundruhs (Keith McMillan); 2nd place, Minnie Bs (Bryan Lewis)
Year 5, 2004, 12 teams, Yahoo!: HeadCrushers (Chad Burns); 2nd place, Minnie Bs (Bryan Lewis)
Year 4, 2003, 10 teams, Yahoo!: Minnie Bs (Bryan Lewis); 2nd place, HeadCrushers (Chad Burns)
Year 3, 2002, 10 teams, Yahoo!: NOVA Ballas (John Boamah); 2nd place, Springers (Francel Smith)
Year 2, 2001, 8 teams on CBSSportsline: Minnie Bs (Bryan Lewis) -- B-Luv won it with a dummy team he didn't even draft, defeating The Show (Bailey Martin) in the final.
Year 1, 1997, 8 teams scored by hand: No championship game played, but Night & Day (was this BJ & Cain's team, or was that Fudge Ripple) had the best record (8-3) going into the playoffs.

There's more where that came from if y'all care ... all-time owner/franchise records, best team names in history, or something.

As soon as I set up the league, I'll be in contact. (as if anyone is reading the blog just salivating in anticipation)

Wait! Don't Delete That Email!

Greetings. Salutations. Hi there. Yo!

All proper ways of saying hello to the almighty BAN Family. So how is it going family? What's new on the home front? Say word? I never knew that....

Yeah so as Keith has stated before, we've all been sort of in touch/out of touch for the past few years, and by that I mean outside the Richmond Metro Area. Those of us who decided to bounce from the fertile grounds of the RIC to other various locals around the US have had sort of a tough time keeping up with the Jones' (speaking of Color Me, where is Kenya these days?) Smiths, Pratts, Cains, etc. etc.... Now I myself have tried to call or at least email most of you when some big news would occur. Most of you know I was coaching at Guilford College last fall, cause I sent you a picture as proof positive.

Some of you may know that I'm getting married in July (the 3rd to be exact) in Amelia Island, Florida as well as having a baby in October (More on that in a later edition) and buying a house here in Greensboro. HECTIC!!!!

But the whole purpose of this blog is to try our best to keep everyone informed of news and events that concern the brethren and their significant others. Like if B-Love is having one of his famous cookouts, he could post it here for all to see. Or if the latest rendition of the BAN flag football juggernaut is in the finals, they could post it here. I think that with the exception of Jamar and F'in Dave (who is getting married this July as well), everyone lives within a 6 hour drive or so of Richmond. I'm assuming that of course since I don't have the current locations of a grip of the brothers (Dorian, Stick, 30/30, Alvin, etc.). But again that is the whole purpose of this blog, to provide a forum for keeping in touch. Simple right?

So if you happen to get an email from me or Keith or someone else regarding this blog, please check it out. If you have any aspirations or time to contribute to the posts, please let me or Keith know and we'll set you up. Otherwise, please leave some comments or hit us up on the email and we'll post it up for you. I think Keith is working on a master email list so hopefully we'll have a directory up soon.

Take it easy and click on the links!!!!!

Getting the BANd back together?

Friday, May 12, 2006

As I sit down to send out updates to friends and family about the birth of my second child, it occurs to me that much of my BAN family probably didn't even know I had one kid.

We've kept close through our individual friendships and planned the occasional event, but we probably could accomplish much more, more easily, online. I often think of submitting things I know to the R-MC alumni magazine, as just our little group has so much success within it: Teachers, lawyers, politicians, social workers, models, coaches, firefighters, business owners, home owners and people up in major companies like Circuit City and USA Today ... and those are only the people I've managed to stay in touch with. Not to mention one of our very own has dropped an album, with a two guest appearances from another BAN brother, that you all need to check out.

I always thought a Vegas trip to celebrate 10 years of BAN would be nice, but we're well into at least the 11th year with nothing like that in sight. If we're all busy being career men and Dads, that's cool, but it couldn't hurt to get the band back together, as they say.

So I again I reach out to the peoples. It's time to network, plan events, help each other invest and buy homes and raise kids and further careers, not to mention reminisce and shoot the breeze. I got some lost friends I haven't talked to in a while either ... what's the deal?

It's been a long time ...

... we shouldn't have left you. Seriously, there are no plans to bring back the full-scale BAN site, but I figured it was time we re-established an online presence.

As of now, there are no rules and no established purpose outside of keeping in touch with the crew we grew to love. Reminisce, network, announce new arrivals or life changes, whatever. Have at it ... We're back.

Keith
